Professional US-Israel Exchange Continues

January 2017

Over 15 years ago, Israel Elwyn (IE) and JEVS Human Services created a professional exchange fellowship with the generous funding of the Samuel P. Mandell Foundation (Philadelphia).  The project is intended to create a flow of knowledge and establish contacts in joint fields of endeavor.
Every year, a JEVS professional and a professional from outside the agency travel to Israel for a week of intensive immersion in the Israeli social services system, and particularly Israel Elwyn's programs throughout the country.  In the same year, an IE professional and a professional from outside the agency travel to Philadelphia to learn about programs operated by JEVS and other organizations.
This year, Mazal Levi (Director – Department of Social Services, City of Ashkelon) and Dorit Abdu (Director – Placement Services, Southern Israel, Israel Elwyn) participated in this professional exchange fellowship. Upon returning to Israel, Mazal and Dorit commented that they were left amazed by the overall learning experience, their new acquaintance with people from a range of programs, and the comparisons between Philadelphia and Israel.
In January, Susan Schonfeld (CEO, Community Integrated Services – the largest Philadelphia-area job search and job support agency assisting people with disabilities in locating employment and succeeding in a job) and Rhonda Cohen (MSW – Coordinator of Community Relations, JEVS Career Strategies Youth Services) spent a week in Israel, learning about IE's programs and sharing their knowledge with us. Upon returning home, Rhonda wrote, "Everything was nothing short of perfect, and I was so impressed with all of your programs and all of your staff.  In my lifetime, I have never met such dedicated and passionate professionals."
Israel Elwyn is proud to participate in this important venture and credits the knowledge acquired in both countries with promoting the growth and development of our programs and services to service recipients.
