Intersection of Disability, Cancer, Aroma and Israel Elwyn

October 2018

Israel Elwyn (IE) and the nationwide chain, Aroma Espresso Bar Israel Ltd., have been cooperating in the field of employment for people with intellectual and other disabilities since 1996.  In 2009, Aroma chose IE as its strategic corporate partner. Aroma employs individuals with disability in most of its over 140 branches in Israel – many with support services from Israel Elwyn’s professional job coaches – and has embarked on other employment-related initiatives with IE.

For example, in 2009, Aroma and IE teamed up with the Jerusalem Municipality to improve the upkeep of sports fields and parks throughout the city.  And in 2015, Aroma’s annual competition of professional baristas (coffee preparers) focused on an exhibition of photographs by a group of talented photographers with intellectual disabilities who call themselves “Photographing from the Heart.” “Photographing” is a social enterprise initiated and based at IE’s Kfar Yona Regional Occupational Training Center.

This month, workers in IE’s Herzliya Occupational Training Center, who are acquiring the skills that will help them join the competitive job market with support services from IE, created special packages recognizing the Israeli “1 in 9” breast cancer campaign.

The packages, which included the signature pink ribbon, were distributed at each Aroma branch.

With October being National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the USA, we see a special significance in this intersection of people with disabilities working in an IE training center to produce handouts to be used in an Aroma social responsibility campaign.

Israel Elwyn looks forward to continuing to work with the Aroma on additional projects that will ensure the inclusion of people with disabilities in the Israeli workplace and society as a whole.
