IE and American Friends of Israel Elwyn Pay Tribute to Founding Board Member

L-r: Former Chairman Frank Riesenburger, Esq., presents award to the Hollins; Mrs. Sande Hollin and the Honorable Harris N. Hollin; Tribute Co-Chair, Mitchell Hollin

On May 21, 2014 Israel Elwyn and the American Friends of Israel Elwyn paid tribute to IE’s Founding Board Member, the Honorable Harris N. Hollin, and Mrs. Sande Hollin, for their 30 years of generous and longstanding commitment to serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The event was co-chaired by their son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Cristy Hollin and attended by family, friends and leaders in the Philadelphia community.  Rabbi Frederic Kazan, a leader in Philadelphia's Jewish Community for decades and friend of the Hollins', offered the benediction.

In addition to his leadership on Israel Elwyn’s Board of Directors, Harris founded Conquer Fragile X Foundation in 1999 and advocates internationally for efforts to find a cure for Fragile X, the leading inherited cause of intellectual disabilities.  He was also a member of The President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities.  Harris has written a memoir motivated by his Fragile X involvement and co-authored a book about the last major battle of the Korean War, where he served as a combat officer and was awarded the Bronze Star.  Mrs. Sande Hollin, former President of the Harrison NY chapter of Hadassah, has been involved with many charitable activities and served on the boards of the JCC of Philadelphia, the Jewish Arts Foundation of Palm Beach, FL, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and the University of Pennsylvania’s Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology.

Franklin Riesenburger, IE’s outgoing Board Chairperson, Stuart Rudoler, incoming Chairperson and David Marcu, IE’s CEO all spoke of the Hollins' contribution to Israel Elwyn's growth and its leadership in the field in Israel and globally, and to the continual and rapid advancement of IE's capacities and results in bringing independence, skills, hope, and dignity to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The reception was held at the historic Union League of Philadelphia. With more than 70 people in attendance, Israel Elwyn successfully raised over $75,000 towards program funding for children and adults with disabilities throughout the State of Israel.

We once again salute Harris and Sande Hollin for their leadership and look to them for inspiration for emerging leaders who are following their example and helping Israel Elwyn enable more than 3,000 people in Israel, and many more throughout the world, achieve their goals.
