Residents of Israel Elwyn's Community Residential Services Visit Paris

Earlier this month, fourteen residents of Israel Elwyn’s Community Residential Services (CRS) spent a week touring the fabulous city of Paris.

Once they had arrived in France, the La Havane hotel in the Jewish Quarter became their “home away from home,” putting them in the center of Paris…mere steps from the famous Opera Garnier, and near the historic Grands Magasins department stores and the main train stations.

The group wasted little time settling in at the hotel and made their way directly to Disneyland Paris.  In addition to enjoying many of the 50 rides and attractions, they watched the Disney parade of cartoon and movie characters.

On the second day, the group toured the famous Versailles Palace and its expansive gardens.  The third day had them reaching for the heights – to the top of the Eiffel Tower – seeing all of Paris at their feet.  A boat trip along the Seine River allowed them to see Paris – including Notre Dame – from a different angle.  The long and enjoyable day was capped off by dinner in the Jewish Quarter.

The group pursued a slower pace in their visit to Andre Citroen Park on their fourth day.  A portion of the group again saw Paris at their feet by going up 150 feet in the Park’s tethered helium balloon.  Everyone enjoyed relaxing on the lush lawns for a picnic lunch, as well as playing in the fountain area, which has famously provided a backdrop for numerous movie scenes.

Asterix Park – an amusement park outside of Paris – was the focus of day five.  The group visited the rides of their choice…various roller coasters, a water slide and a ghost train.  Exhausted but happy, the residents returned to Paris for their last night in the City of Lights.

The last full day in Paris featured a visit to the Paris Aquarium, where they saw hundreds of types of fish, including three kinds of sharks.  They enjoyed interacting with fish in a petting pool and seeing the sharks being fed.  A stop in the gift shop topped off the interesting morning.  Lunch was a picnic on the lawns near the Eiffel Tower and was followed by a stroll back to the hotel.  The residents met to sum up what aspect of the trip each had most enjoyed.  Some said they would be glad to return to Paris again, while others already had thoughts of where they would like to visit when they again travel abroad.

The next morning, everyone was up early to eat breakfast and organize for the trip home.  Last minute shopping preceded the flight home.  Upon return to Israel everyone began calling friends and family to regale them with stories of their adventures.

The members of the group paid for their vacation with the salaries they earn year round in their jobs.  The generosity of IE’s donors enabled four of IE’s support providers to accompany this trip, making this exciting experience for the group possible.  We are grateful for their support and leadership.
