Technology - High and Low - Has Its Place in Child Development

In mid-September, staff from Israel Elwyn’s (IE) Haifa & Northern Israel Branch gave lectures and presented professional posters on the work done at IE’s Early Intervention Centers supporting toddlers with developmental and other disabilities and their families.  The setting was a conference in Jerusalem called “Under One Roof,” on the subject of Child Development and Rehabilitation, which was attended by hundreds of professionals who are involved in this field.

Early intervention for infants and toddlers ages three months to three years and who have been diagnosed as being at risk of having developmental or other disabilities has been a focus for Israel Elwyn for nearly two decades.  Children can benefit from receiving services at the earliest possible age; in many cases they are then able to progress to the regular education system and avoid special education.  IE’s Early Intervention Centers throughout Israel invest significant resources in creating and adopting the most advanced methodologies, including the use of technology, thus expanding the knowledge of the families and professionals caring for the children.

The lectures focused on the Parents’ Day Model, whose aim is the full and ongoing cooperation and involvement of parents, and on Instruction for Support Staff to advance the educational and instructional process at our Centers.

The posters described the Sibling Project, providing siblings without a disability with the opportunity to spend time with their parents and to meet other children who also have a sibling with a disability, and the Hand Washing Project, developed to teach and encourage children with disabilities to wash their hands properly, using an application on a computer tablet.

IE’s Haifa & Northern Israel Branch has Early Intervention Centers in Haifa, Kibbutz Usha, Kiryat Bialik and Carmiel.
