IE Staff Train to Expand Mosaic Program for National Service Volunteers

October 2016

Graduates proudly display their certificates

On September 8, 2016, fifteen Israel Elwyn coordinators and program managers graduated from a 60-hour course on the rehabilitation and recovery of young adults dealing with mental issues.  Taught by the National School for Mental Health Rehabilitation, Integration and Recovery, Faculty of Health Professionals – Ono Academic College, near Tel Aviv, the course provided significant insight into the world of young adults dealing with mental issues.

The subjects studied include:
  • The recovery vision and its contribution to daily life
  • Psychopathology
  • Existing services
  • Skills and tools
  • Professional rehabilitation approaches and concepts
  • The point of view of the young adult dealing with mental issues and the family
  • Community inclusion
  • Adapting existing tools to the recovery concept

The tools and knowledge acquired expanded IE's staff members' knowledge of the field of mental health in young adults, giving them practical skills to draw on in working with young adults with mental issues who are volunteering in Israel's National Service through IE's Mosaic program.  Our aim is to help these young adults, who constitute 25% of Mosaic participants, to broaden their horizons regarding volunteering and their preparations for the day they complete National Service.

We are grateful to the Ministry of Health and Ono Academic College for their significant collaboration.

Israel Elwyn’s partners in Mosaic are the Authority for National-Civic Services, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services – Rehabilitation Division, the Opportunity Fund for Civic Service, and Shlomit and Aminadav, two nonprofit organizations that provide placement and ongoing services to all National Service volunteers (with and without disabilities) throughout Israel.
