IE Nominee Wins Corporate Award

January 2016

For the Fourth Time: An Israel Elwyn Nominee Wins International Corporate Award

L-r: Genie Cohen (IAJVS), MK Itzik Shmuli, Raffi Sadeh (Dan Hotels); David Marcu, CEO of Israel Elwyn, Genie Cohen, Raffi Sadeh

In recognition of its commitment to the full inclusion of people with disabilities in society, the International Association of Jewish Vocational Services (IAJVS) named the Dan Hotels Israel recipient of its International Corporate Award. An IAJVS member, Israel Elwyn nominated the Dan Hotels Israel chain for the award as a tribute to its long and distinguished history of employing IE workers with disabilities, supporting their promotion, providing vocational assistance and opening their ranks to potential new workers.

The award was presented on January 14, 2016, by Genie Cohen, CEO of IAJVS, to Raffi Sadeh, CEO of the Dan Hotels chain.  The event was attended by senior officials in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services, a member of the Knesset, Dan Hotels Human Resources managers, Dan employees with disabilities who receive support services from Israel Elwyn and their families, and IE staff.

Established in 1947, Dan Hotels Israel is the first and largest luxury hotel chain in Israel, with over 3,600 employees in its 14 hotels. Working in concert with Israel Elwyn, the Dan Hotels chain encourages the inclusion of people with disabilities in the competitive job market by serving as a vocational center where individuals with disabilities are trained for work. Currently, 20 workers with disabilities receive employment supports from Israel Elwyn, and several workers at IE Occupational Training Centers are candidates for additional positions in the hotel chain.

In addition, hotels in the Dan Hotels chain regularly host IE’s Reshet ("Network," in Hebrew) program, which prepares teenagers with disabilities for a successful transition from high school to independent adulthood. Through Reshet, these  young people are exposed to a range of future possibilities, among them military or natinonal service, continuing education or employment. Dan Hotels have also provided a venue for Mosaic, one of IE’s newest programs, offering workshops to help hundreds of volunteers with disabilities in Israel’s National Service to make the transition to the competitive job market or continuing education.

Members of IE's Photographing from the Heart social enterprise, established several years ago at IE's Kfar Yona Regional Occupational Training Center, were present with their manager to photograph the presentation and the accompanying festivities.  In addition, examples of their works that were on display throughout the event were purchased by many of the ceremony's participants.

This is the fourth time that an IE nominee has been chosen to receive this prestigious award. Previously, Aroma Espresso Bar Israel Ltd., the Israel Supreme Court and the Israel Electric Corporation were recognized for their inclusion of people with disabilities in their workforce.
