Israel Elwyn Receives Third Stage of Major Grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles

February 2016

Israel Elwyn (IE) is pleased to announce that the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles continues to partner in IE's Supported Employment program.  The goal of the Foundation's $100,000 multi-year grant, awarded incrementally since 2013, is to provide supplementary training and other skill-building activities that will heighten the ability of more people with disabilities to participate in job training in the community.  In the past two years, Israel Elwyn has succeeded in providing comprehensive training and job placement to over 400 individuals with disabilities, helping them achieve inclusion in the competitive job market that leads to professional fulfillment and economic independence.  IE job coaches continue providing the ongoing supports to succeed, as needed, in workplaces that include restaurants, hotels, hospitals, professional services, high tech and manufacturing.  Additional employer outreach and training has created interest with hundreds of companies – from mom and pop stores to large chains - in hiring individuals.

According to Israel Elwyn’s CEO, David Marcu, “Israel Elwyn continues to be a pioneer and leader in the field of supported employment in Israel.  Our governmental partners have been encouraging and have provided funding, but the added support of the Jewish Community Federation of Los Angeles has been instrumental in helping Israel Elwyn develop even more job opportunities for growing numbers of people and continue our emphasis on self-advocacy by helping people with intellectual disabilities realize their rights and obligations in the labor market.”  Israel Elwyn is proud of the fact that about 80% of our program’s participants have found employment in the competitive job market; the remaining individuals were referred to other employment programs that suited their needs and desires at the time.

We are grateful for the ongoing support of the Jewish Community Foundation of LA and look forward to growing the acceptance – and opportunities – that people with disabilities find in the workforce.

We've just put our Facebook page up, to provide you with some of the latest news on what's happening at Israel Elwyn throughout Israel.  Please also invite your friends to like our page!  Thanks!
