Individuals with disabilities who live at Israel Elwyn’s Supported Living Services in Jerusalem have good reason to celebrate.  On May 26, 2017, in a joint project of Israel Elwyn and Bnai Zion, the George and Irina Schaeffer Cultural Center was dedicated on their campus.  Its accessible main hall and activity rooms will provide residents with bright and airy spaces for recreation, cultural events, and employment services and training, enhancing their living experience and giving them a new source of pride.

At the center, residents will find a pleasant and bright environment as well as activities that provide them with new opportunities for cultural expression and to enhance their employment skills.   In one example, individuals who wish to work in the food services industry will have the opportunity to train as assistant chefs in the center’s food services training stations.

David B. Marcu, CEO of Israel Elwyn presided over the dedication ceremony.  Joining him on the program were Cheryl Bier, Executive Vice President of Bnai Zion; Marick Shifris, a resident of Israel Elwyn’s Supported Living Services; Vered Fraiman, representing the parents of the residents; Hila Yedid, Director of External Relations, Funds Department, National Insurance Institute and Nachum Ido, Director, Supported Living Services, Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Social Services.
