On April 11, Israel Elwyn celebrated the dedication of the Albert Beresin Occupational Training Center (OTC) in Haifa.

All of the attendees were invited on guided tours before the ceremony and were warmly greeted in the various departments of the OTC by the workers with disabilities, who continued their work despite the excitement in the air.  The Center's other services – Transitions for young adults 16-21 making the move from student to adult, advanced training for computerized work, supported employment in the community, and job placement in the community (whether with or without continued support services as needed) – were also described to the visitors.

The Albert Beresin OTC’s professional approach is based on "future orientation."  In this context, each individual with a disability is a partner in the creation of a unique employment program based on personal desires, a personal dream and abilities that proceeds by stages through a continuum of employment services, allowing each to determine his or her future and path in this aspect of life.

The OTC's workers and staff were very proud on this auspicious day and took an active part in explaining the Center’s work, routine and the varied types of employment offered.  The workers' representative (herself a participant), Ms. Einat Kremer, spoke before the visitors, explaining how she has been aided in preparing to realize her personal dream to work in the community at a coffee shop.  Einat thanked all those who have made this possible.  No less exciting was when Einat's father proudly exclaimed, "That's my daughter!" to those sitting nearby.

The OTC's workers made a recording of the song, "Thank you for all you've given me," which expressed their gratitude to all the partners who helped make the new OTC a reality.  The song was played at the end of the dedication ceremony with several of the workers singing along in front of the audience.

The Albert Beresin Trust, which was a significant donor to the construction of the new Center was represented by Ron Siegel, Esq., and his wife, Vicki.  Dignitaries from Haifa were present:  Mr. Yona Yahav, the Mayor of Haifa; Mr. Shmuel Gantz, General Manager of the Haifa Municipality; Mr. Itzik Rosner, Director of the City’s Rehabilitation Department; and Ms. Naomi Grintal, Assistant Director of the Rehabilitation Department.  Also attending were representatives of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services, including Mr. Avner Zaken, Assistant Director of the Department for the Support of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities; Ms. Vivian Azran, Director, Community Services Division for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and Their Families; and Mr. Danny Katz, National Supervisor for Employment; among others.

Mr. Shmuel Weinglass, the Director of the Fund for the Development of Services for Persons with Disabilities, National Insurance Institute; Ms. Riva Muskal, Director, Shalem Fund; and Ms. Miki Cohen, Director of Projects for the Shalem Fund all attended.

Other participants included IE's partners from other municipalities and local authorities in the area, the National Insurance Institute, non profits and organizations with whom we work, representatives from employer organizations and training programs for IE's service recipients, and the families of service recipients.
