Grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles

Israel Elwyn Receives a Major Grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles

IE supported employee with supervisor and fellow employee

Israel Elwyn was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles to provide supplementary training and other skill-building activities to people with disabilities seeking to join the competitive job market.  The purpose of the training is to heighten the ability of a projected 100 more people with disabilities to participate in job training in the community in each of the coming three years. The goal is to achieve inclusion in the competitive job market through comprehensive training that leads to individual professional fulfillment and economic independence, and to continue to receive the ongoing support they need to succeed.

According to Israel Elwyn’s CEO, David Marcu, “We are proud that Israel Elwyn has been a pioneer and leader in the field of supported employment in Israel.  Our governmental partners have been encouraging and have provided funding, and with this added support we aim to develop additional job opportunities for more people and continue our emphasis on self-advocacy by helping people with intellectual disabilities realize their rights and obligations in the labor market.”  Israel Elwyn is gratified by the fact that nearly 85% of our program’s participants have found employment in the competitive job market; the remaining individuals were referred to other employment programs that suited their needs and desires at the time.

We are grateful for the generous support of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles and look forward to the increasing acceptance – and opportunities – for people with disabilities in the workforce.
