Workers from Israel Elwyn’s Sabbah Center Visit Eilat

IE' Sabbah Center workers pose at the Underwater Observatory Marine Park

Forty-five workers with disabilities from Israel Elwyn’s Sabbah Center wound up their summer with a weeklong visit to Eilat, Israel’s Red Sea resort city.

On the first Sunday in September, they arrived at their usual place of work – but this time, bearing suitcases filled with casual wear, swimsuits, sunscreen and hats, ready for a week of fun.  Boarding the bus, they began to enter into the holiday spirit with songs and visions of what they would do in Eilat.

The travelers reached their destination, the Caesar Hotel, in time for a late lunch and a rest before the evening’s activities.  Dinner was followed by a concert, a disco and activities with the hotel’s entertainment staff.

Monday’s activities included a leisurely cruise on the Red Sea and a speedboat outing.  A lively dance party on deck was followed by a barbecue lunch on the ship.  After a brief rest at the hotel, the group visited the hotel’s pool, where they swam and relaxed.  After dinner, the workers again enjoyed the hotel’s entertainment program.

On Tuesday the group visited the Underwater Observatory Marine Park, where they were particularly thrilled at seeing the sharks.  They also saw an underwater film about the wide variety of fish and animals living in the sea.  Shopping filled the afternoon and was followed by dinner and another disco at the hotel.

Most of Wednesday was spent swimming and relaxing at the pool, followed by dinner and an IMAX movie at the MAX Entertainment Palace.

On Thursday the travelers headed back north to Jerusalem for an opportunity to talk about the trip with their friends and families.

Yael, who receives occupational training services at the Center, said, “It was really fun.  I spent lots of time at the pool, where they played music that I love.  I like to dance and also enjoyed all the discos at the hotel.”

Eli, her compatriot, added, “The hotel was good and the food was good.  I enjoyed shopping.”

Yonatan remarked on the program for the week:  “It was fun.  I went to have fun and to tour.  I saw the fish and dolphins – and the movie – in the underwater observatory.  I have photographs of myself and it was really fun.”

Rivka agreed:  “It was great and I want to continue being on vacation.  When can we go again?  Do we have to wait until next year – that’s too long!  The food was good and we enjoyed ourselves.”
