Workers with Disabilities Warmly Welcomed by New Partner Company

IE supported workers at the Of Tov kosher poultry company in Beit She'an

Just over a year ago, the management of the Of Tov kosher poultry company in Beit She’an decided to include people with disabilities in their workforce.  A leading local processor of chicken and turkey products, Of Tov employs over 250 people at its plant in northern Israel.  Today, the company employs four individuals with disabilities who receive supports from Israel Elwyn’s (IE) Supported Employment job coaching staff. The workers’ names are Yael, Niv, Ran, and Nissan and they have been welcomed with open arms by the other Of Tov employees, who have also expressed their admiration for the company’s management in taking this step towards the inclusion of people with disabilities within the community.

Three of these workers are in their late 30s and were interested in finding new jobs in the community after their previous employer relocated his factory.  The fourth employee is in his 50s and had worked at a sheltered workshop for 20 years, where he felt stifled and desired more challenging work.  Now, three of these workers with disabilities work on Of Tov production lines, and the fourth is employed in the plant’s kitchen, which prepares daily meals for the entire workforce.

During the Rosh HaShanah season, Of Tov’s employee newsletter featured wishes for the new year from these employees with disabilities to their colleagues.  Yael wished everyone a good year, filled with love, adding, “I love everything about my work and enjoy every day.”  Niv hoped that the new year would be profitable and bring everyone true love:  “I feel as though we are a family.  Thank you for your warmth and the love you give us.”  Ran conveyed sincere wishes that everyone in his department would be healthy and happy, adding “May all your dreams come true.  You are good friends who understand how to give help and praise when it’s deserved.  I enjoy my work, especially labeling the cartons we pack.”  Nissan wanted everyone to enjoy the holidays:  “May this be a year of peace and calm, and may all be well!”

Israel Elwyn’s continuum of training and placement programs throughout Israel ranges from structured vocational training and job placement, to programs that assist by providing supports in the competitive job market.  These IE services afford each individual the opportunity to find a suitable job or to prepare for one.
